QDC Industrial Metal Detectors
The QDC Industrial Metal Detector detects damaging tramp metal present in conveyed materials such as aggregates, mined ore, and recycled materials. This includes identifying tramp iron, non-magnetic manganese steel (e.g. digger teeth), and non-ferrous metals. Once detected, the problematic metal is removed either manually or automatically, preventing damage to screens, crushers and conveyors. The QDC design is easy to install (without cutting the conveyor) and simple to operate, making it a popular Metal Detector for many bulk handling installations.
Description
The QDC Metal Detector automatically and continuously detects tramp metal in conveyed non-metallic and non-conductive materials and is easily installed onto new or existing conveyors. A key feature is the ability to install without cutting the conveyor belt. The QDC is especially popular with users due to the simplicity of operation, fully adjustable levels of sensitivity and detection and product compensation facility.
The QDC is particularly successful in detecting a wide range of tramp metal from large pieces of channel iron and bolts down to small pieces of swarf and wire. Such tramp metal damages processing equipment.
The versatile QDC is designed for installation onto a belt conveyor, into chutes, on elevators or similar types of material handling equipment. The design enables dismantling for easy installation around endless belt conveyors. Additionally, there are alternative search coil configurations available for special installations.
The search coil of the QDC is available with a range of aperture sizes to suit a specific application or process. Bunting’s application engineers provide guidance on the optimum dimensions for any given installation.
The QDC Metal Detector MDT electronic control panel is housed in an IP65 wall-fixing cabinet for mounting locally or remotely from the search coil.
Operation
When the QDC Metal Detector detects tramp metal, a signal is generated in the search coil and transmitted to the control unit. This signal is processed and used to control other circuits, which include the interlocking of the belt conveyor, operating audible or visual alarms, marking devices or automatic rejection mechanisms.
Typical tramp metal detected includes:
- Digger teeth
- Drill rods
- Crusher plates
- Bars
- Chains
- Nuts and bolts
- Wire
- Swarf
Applications
The versatility of the QDC makes the metal detector suitable for a wide range of applications in the bulk handling sector. Typical materials inspected include limestone, granite, sand and gravel, cement, clay, coal, chemicals, wood chips, mineral ores, food products, powders, and chemicals.
