QTA Industrial Metal Detectors

The heavy-duty QTA Industrial Metal Detector detects all damaging tramp metal present in conveyed materials such as aggregates, mined ore, and recycled materials. This includes identifying tramp iron, non-magnetic manganese steel (e.g. digger teeth), and non-ferrous metals. Once detected, the problematic metal is removed either manually or automatically, preventing damage to screens, crushers and conveyors. The QTA design is easy to install (without cutting the conveyor) and simple to operate, making it a popular Metal Detector for the quarrying, mining and recycling industries.

Description

The QTA Metal Detector automatically and continuously detects tramp metal in conveyed non-metallic and non-conductive materials and is easily installed onto new or existing conveyors.  A key feature is the ability to install without cutting and re-vulcanising the conveyor belt as the QTA search coil dismantles at one end.

The QTA search coil can is available in a range of standard sizes or is specifically configured to meet customer requirements.  The search coils of the QTA are designed to suit special or extra deep burden applications such as found in high-tonnage quarries and mines.  Bunting’s application engineers provide guidance on the optimum dimensions for any given installation.

The QTA is simple to operate, features fully adjustable levels of sensitivity and detection, as well as including a product compensation facility (this is important when handling materials that product a ‘produce effect’ which may compromise the detection sensitivity).

The QTA provides the highest standard of protection to all quarrying, mining and processing plants, against all forms of tramp metal from digger teeth, hammers, liner plates down to small nuts and bolts.

The QTA Metal Detector MDT electronic control panel is housed in an IP65 wall-fixing cabinet for mounting locally or remotely from the search coil.

Operation

As with other Metal Detectors, on detecting any tramp metal, a signal is generated in the search coil and transmitted to the control unit.  This signal is processed and used to control other circuits, which include the interlocking of the belt conveyor, operating audible or visual alarms, belt interlocking, marking devices or automatic rejection mechanisms.

Typical tramp metal detected includes:

  • Digger teeth
  • Drill rods
  • Crusher plates
  • Bars
  • Chains
  • Nuts and bolts
  • Wire
  • Swarf

Applications

The rugged and hard-wearing construction of the QTA ensures stability and successful operation under arduous and difficult site conditions such as found in quarrying, mining and recycling.   Typical materials inspected include granite, limestone, gypsum, cement rock, marine sand and gravel, basalt, sandstone, coal, mineral ores, etc.
